Our Environmental Goal

We recognize the importance of addressing climate change. That's why we've announced a new goal to reduce our carbon emission intensity by 32% by 2034*. We'll focus on three key areas to reach this target: incorporating alternative powered equipment into our fleet, expanding the use of biogenic fuels, and improving fuel economy (diesel powered miles-per-gallon “MPG”).

Championing Intermodal Conversion

J.B. Hunt also leads the industry in converting over-the-road highway freight to rail intermodal, reducing a shipment’s carbon footprint by an average of 60%. Over the past decade, J.B. Hunt’s intermodal service has helped avoid an estimated 30 million metric tons of CO2e emissions through intermodal conversion.

Designing Solutions for Customers

We support our customers’ desires to create an optimized supply chain through a variety of programs. Our CLEAN Transport® Carbon Calculator calculates a customer’s carbon footprint, and our Carbon Diet provides guidance on how to reduce emissions, including the CLEAN Transport carbon-neutral program.

Energy Efficient Equipment

We maintain a fleet with an average truck age under three years, which allows us to utilize equipment with the latest emission-reduction technologies, tractor aerodynamics, direct drive transmissions, idle reduction technologies and automated manual transmissions with predictive cruise control.

Exploring Alternative Energy

Biodiesel and renewable diesel are fundamental to our fuel purchasing. We're also evaluating renewable natural gas, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and battery electric trucks. We believe testing and advocating for environmental stewardship contributes to progress in this space.

Technology That Drives Out Waste

The J.B. Hunt 360°^® platform enables enhanced efficiency of our operations by eliminating empty miles. Since its inception, the platform has helped our drivers eliminate more than 13 million empty miles.
